Attack on Titan Season 1 Episode 13 Overview

The Trost soldiers spot Eren lugging the boulder to the breach after the battles between the cadets and the Titans are over and risk their lives to protect him. Once the breach is closed, the Scout Regiment shows up to help exterminate the last few Titans.
The cadets help with the corpse cleanup after the battle, and Jean discovers Marco’s body. Eren eventually wakes up in a jail under the watchful eyes of Captain Levi and Commander Erwin, who admit him to the Scouts.
Hope
In a building with a titan outside, Jean comes up with a scheme to flee using an ODM suit belonging to a dead soldier. When the giant turns its back, he flees but struggles due to a problem with the replacement’s belt. The giant is then drawn to Marco by Connie and Annie, who are standing at his rear. As it turns out, his successor is as flawed, Jean stumbles. He narrowly avoids a giant encounter thanks to Annie, and they all get it back to the wall.
Due to the increasing amount of titans entering the building, Rico and her team are having trouble as they lose warriors.
On their end, Jean and the others follow suit. While Ian and Mikasa are tasked with keeping an eye on Eren, Ian notices the other squad from Mitabi’s team luring the giants on foot and they reinforce them.
Fight
Eren feels as though his body is collapsing under the weight of the boulder as he watches his buddies being used as bait below him. He recalls yearning for freedom and the desire to travel the world. He fights no matter how terrible their environment may be since everyone has been denying them the best freedom the world has to offer.
Ian loses his life in the subsequent conflict as Rico and Mikasa make room for Eren. As he lowers the boulder and closes the wall, Eren lets out one more yell. Everyone hears Rico sob and he assures them that their deaths weren’t in vain. The elite team is rescued by Pyxis, who sends reinforcements once she flashes the yellow flare to indicate victory.
Armin and Mikasa rush to recover Eren’s body as the titans continue to approach. Thankfully, Levi shows up and eliminates the two lurking dangers. Eren notices the Scout Regiment’s wings of freedom as an emblem on his back. Levi turns around and queries what is going on.
They are able to use cannon fire to annihilate the surviving titans within Trost because of the Scouts and Garrison Regiment. The scouts eliminated the few survivors. Two giants were also captured alive by them. Another 900 soldiers were hurt, and another 200 soldiers were missing. No one had the will to rejoice after such defeats, despite the fact that it was their first triumph.
Jean discovers Marco’s body lying on the ground, half of him cut by a titan assault, as she is cleaning up the streets. He is in disbelief and wonders if anyone saw his death. His name is requested by a neighboring nurse who says they cannot afford an outbreak.
Promise
Sasha discovers a huge heap of dead people on one side that a giant had thrown up into. Annie apologises to the deceased on another, but Reiner tells her they don’t have time for that. They had to get ready for the wake.
Eren awakens in a jail with Scout Regiment Captain Levi and Commander Erwin. He is now being held by the Military Police and is located in the dungeons.
He is shown the necklace key by Erwin. He inquires about the rumored mysteries that are kept in Dr. Jaeger’s cellar in Shiganshina. Levi remains sceptical despite Eren’s assurances that everything is accurate. He is given reassurance by Erwin that the youngster is not lying. He is interested in learning about his aims.
They will once more need to make use of his titanic abilities to retake Shiganshina. Eren shares with him his desire to join the scouts and kill every titan he encounters. Levi offers to look after him out of admiration.
Attack on Titan Season 1 Episode 13 Summary
The fight to defend Eren is still being led by the elite soldiers. The fight, however, utterly decimates Rico’s unit, leaving only her and one other female soldier. They see more Titans approaching as they are forced to retire to the area around the boulder.

Since his own omni-directional mobility gear broke, Jean is currently attempting to use a dead soldier’s while being seen from the top of the Wall by Annie, Conny, and now Marco as well. A Titan approaches Jean as they are having issues with their equipment. Fortunately, Marco arrives at Jean’s position in time to divert the Titan for long enough for Jean to obtain the equipment and flee. As Conny and Annie race to aid Jean, who is having trouble managing the equipment, Jean is able to reorient himself as Conny diverts the Titan following him.

The four of them successfully escape to the top of the Wall after Jean finally masters the equipment, only to be confronted by another Titan and saved by Annie. They were shocked to see Eren in his Titan form going toward the entrance while carrying the enormous boulder when they suddenly heard thundering footsteps.
Along with Mikasa, the top team looks on in disbelief. Armin approaches them and informs them that Eren won and is presently attempting to carry out his duties. He observes that they will succeed if he is able to get to the gate. Ian instructs the men to defend Eren even if it means risking their lives since he sees this as their last opportunity. With the goal of helping Eren, Jean, Annie, Conny, and Marco also descend from the top of the Wall.
Ian then directs Armin and Mikasa to go immediately to Eren before moving forward on his own. However, he pauses abruptly as he notices Mitabi and his team approaching the Titans on the ground. Armin says it’s suicide to stay on the ground, but Ian counters that it’s the only strategy they have left to keep the Titans from focusing on Eren. Ian heads down to successfully divert a Titan, clearing a route for Eren.
Eren watches Armin and Mikasa as he continues to go into the pit and becomes concerned that they could be devoured by Titans. While some of the troops get caught up in the conflict, notably Mitabi, who was distracted by the death of one of his teammates when he was crushed by a Titan’s hand, the soldiers continue to lure the Titans.
Eren then remembers Armin asking him why he went outdoors. He tells himself that everyone is born free and that it doesn’t matter how powerful someone is if they refuse that. He keeps moving forward, ready to fight, no matter how cruel the world is, since he thinks that viewing the outside world will make one the freest person.

Less than a few of the troops are still alive as the Titans continue to devour the rest. Mikasa and Armin see Ian Dietrich putting himself in harm’s way by snatching a soldier from a Titan’s mouth, who then captures Ian and chews off his head. One more Titan blocks Eren’s path, but Rico leaps forward and slashes out its eye before Mikasa completes the killing. Eren finally makes it to the hole, and with Armin’s encouragement, he dumps the rock, effectively closing the gap in Trost.
Rico launches a yellow signal flare to announce that the operation has been completed while crying and saying that the troops’ deaths were not in vain. Dot Pyxis gives the order to deploy reinforcements and rescue the elite unit as soon as she notices this.

Mikasa runs to Eren who is still partially linked to the Titan’s body as Rico orders them to climb the Wall as quickly as possible as more Titans approach. Quickly deciding that they must stop talking to him, Rico does the necessary action. But just as they are about to attack, two Titans arrive and are killed by an unidentified soldier.
