Attack on Titan Season 1 Episode 9 Overview
When news of the attack on Trost reaches the Scouts out beyond Wall Rose, Commander Erwin issues an order for an urgent withdrawal. Eren is summoned before the Garrison’s authorities in the meanwhile to give an explanation for his unexpected Titan abilities.
Eren makes an effort to persuade the captain that he is human, but his comments are ignored. Eren turns into a partially Titan to protect his friends from the explosion as the captain orders the artillery men to fire at him.
Due to the absence of the elite Scout Regiment at the time of the Titan attack, the Trost area sustained several losses. That morning, they had just been out on a scouting mission.
As Commander Erwin and Captain Levi pass the gates, the crowd applauds them. The task of discovering and learning about the outside world is given to the scouts. They have lately had better success after acquiring certain resources, although mission casualties still account for 30% of total losses. This demonstrates how different humans and giants are.
In one of the destroyed villages, Captain Levi defeats a number of titans on his own. One of the scouts is saved, but the victim’s injuries are deadly. Levi assures him that he has done his part and guarantees to stop the giants. The guy dies, his face displaying relief.
They are instructed to return by Commander Erwin since there has been an attack from the direction they came and the wall could have been broken.
Eren swears while being devoured by the bearded giant and discovers a number of more victims. Eren is reminded of his yearning as one of them requests for assistance while searching for her mother. Eren begins to wriggle inside the titan’s belly. swearing angrily that he will put an end to them all.
Eren changes into the Abnormal Titan and knocks an arm out of the beard titan’s mouth. He roars upward and lunges at a neighboring titan, destroying it as his rage grows.
Eren awakens in Armin’s arms but discovers a horde of troops surrounding them. In front of them, Mikasa is guarding them. Even Eren, who Armin asks to share his knowledge with them, is unable to understand what happened. He is seen by everyone as a monster.
Connie describes how they left Trost after restocking on HQ within Wall Rose. As they failed to volunteer, Christa apologises. They inquired about what happened with Jean and his group, but everyone upheld their confidentiality oath. Eren’s fate must currently remain a mystery.
As one of the garrison soldiers, Mr. Hannes is currently peering over the wall. His coworkers questioned him about his concern for the three children he spared who are now cadets in the vanguard. Because of their strengths, he has faith that they will survive.
As punishment for what appears to be betrayal, Captain Kitz now threatens Armin, Mikasa, and Eren with cannon fire. He is asked if he is a titan or a human. Kitz believes they are acting innocent when Eren says he doesn’t know. Eren had been seen by other observers coming out of a titan’s body. They believe he entered Wall Rose undetected and is an unidentified entity.
Kitz must make a choice quickly since more personnel are required in preparation for the Armor Titan’s upcoming invasion. His advisor informs them that it’s doubtful they’ll be able to reach an agreement with these three.
When they advance, Mikasa threatens to push them back. One of the lieutenants attests to her competence. She should halt, Armin advises her, since a compromise would be preferable. Eren, on the other hand, is unable to recall the Titan form or the reason why everyone is threatening to murder him. All of that was it, right? He asks questions, wondering how he regained his limbs.
Eren responds that he is a human when Kitz questions them again. Mikasa returns and makes an effort to save them when Kitz raises the command to attack. Eren is reminded of his father’s basement secrets and the key he wears around his neck. He recalls his father’s tears and the task he gave him to retrieve Wall Maria.
Eren hugs Armin and Mikasa at that very moment and transforms into a titan to protect them, but the body is only partially completed and terrifies everyone.
Attack on Titan Season 1 Episode 9 Summary
The Scout Regiment departs on their most recent trip before the Colossal Titan breaches Wall Rose. Eren, Mikasa, and Armin see their departure among the locals. When a townie sees Captain Levi, he remarks that in combat, he is as powerful as an entire brigade. Hearing this, Levi becomes a little agitated. Squad Leader Hange Zoë makes a joke that they would be heartbroken if they knew how much of a clean freak he was.
Hange imagines the type of Titans they will encounter before they go. She hopes they will run across some abnormal people, and when Levi says he has already spotted one, Hange starts looking about. After giving them a pat, Levi remarks that the abnormal person is standing in front of him.
The greatest and smartest troops in the history of mankind are the ones given this assignment. Even still, at over 30% of soldiers are killed upon entering Titan territory. One of the troops is captured by a Titan while on patrol. He issues a threat while still partially within the Titan’s mouth, warning that humans, notably Captain Levi, would eradicate them.
As he finishes speaking, Levi arrives and dispatches the Titan. He instructs Petra to tend to the injured soldier as further help arrives. Then he tells the others to help him kill two Titans alone on the left while he takes care of one Titan on the right.
Hange takes pleasure in the task elsewhere. After confronting a Titan, Hange declares that they won’t harm it in any way. Hange asks the Titan whether their attack injured it as the Titan ignores Hange’s warnings and tries to capture them. However, Hange quickly avoids their attack, slices their neck, and then drops on the ground.
As Levi approaches the two Titans on the left, he mutters to himself that he detests gazing at them since they all have terrible looks. He dispatches them without difficulty, but as he kills the second Titan, he pauses and immediately cleans off the blood on his hands. He takes a little rest before rejoining Petra and the soldier he previously saved.
With his final breath, the soldier asks Levi whether he was of any assistance. He holds the soldier’s hand and encourages him, telling him that he has done more than enough and that his spirit will stay with him and make him stronger, allowing him to pass away peacefully. They must flee, Commander Erwin tells them as he rides up to them on his horse. Erwin tells Levi and Petra that the Titans are heading north, in the direction of the city, and they are both astonished. They depart out of concern that the Wall could already have been broken.
Right in front of Armin, a Titan swallows Eren whole; the mouth bites down, ripping off Eren’s left arm. Eren was shocked to discover himself surrounded by other dead or dying troops within the Titan’s stomach once he had recovered. He was in shock as he thought back on all his training with the troops and how, despite their growing knowledge of the Titans and how to beat them over the previous five years, most of them had ended up where Eren is.
After hearing a young soldier sobbing in the heat and pleading with her mother in whispers, Eren was reminded of his own mother as a youngster. However, that memory vanished along with the soldier as she fell under the blood and vomited. He then started to wonder why the Titans had taken everything from him, even their hopes and lives.
Eren desperately grabs for the Titan’s neck with his missing arm, his sadness and desperation growing as he does so. He makes a threat to kill and whip out every Titan with just his hands. Suddenly, a huge arm bursts from the Titan’s mouth, forcing it to slip foolishly before landing on its face.
Eren appears in titan form from the Titan’s back as it disintegrates as it lay on the ground. Desperate for retribution, Eren stomps the Titan who devoured him to death before assaulting a lesser Titan and killing it with one punch to the mouth. He continuously stomps on the skull of the dead Titan, possessed by a raging desire to murder every Titan.
After dreaming of these incidents, Eren awakens mumbling, “I want to murder.” He then observes the terrified and misinformed Garrison troops who are trying to murder Eren because they think he is a Titan who wants to eat them all. Eren appears to have no memory of his time as a Titan as the crisis escalates.
Conny tells how they were able to refuel their vehicles and leave Trost with Christa, her buddy, and the other troops inside Wall Rose. When Christa inquires about the other troops who are absent, Conny grimly informs her of their deaths.
When Christa’s friend asks where Mikasa is, Conny responds that he believes Mikasa has returned late with Jean. She asks Jean if Mikasa was hurt. Jean declines to say yes, claiming he has pledged to keep it a secret from the others but is confident that everyone will eventually find out.
Captain Hannes discusses the new defence strategy with the technical staff atop the Wall, but they are still on high alert. He inquires as to his friend’s condition after noticing the concern on his face. In response, his companion says that he worries about his buddies who remained in the vanguard. Hannes urges him to remain concentrated on the interception, but his buddy then inquires about Eren, Mikasa, and Armin because he has heard that they too were still in the vanguard. Hannes says he apologises for talking too much, but he believes in them because of their unique talents.
Mikasa and Armin are informed that they risk being accused of treason and put to death. A cannon is ready to blast Eren at any time if he says something the captain deems dishonest or moves even one inch, which puts him in a terrible predicament. The captain then presses him, wanting to know if he is a Titan or a human.
Eren wonders what he’s saying since he doesn’t comprehend. The captain eventually loses patience and claims that he is now the enemy because several people witnessed him exit the Titan. A soldier advises that they kill him while he is still in human form since they don’t want to endanger any more soldiers.
After hearing him, Mikasa makes a ruthless death threat against anyone who attempts to hurt Eren. The captain is informed by another soldier that Mikasa is one of their greatest troops and that her death would be a big loss. Eren tries to recall what just happened while Armin advises leaving. He begins to understand that what he witnessed was not simply a dream as he turns to look at his left arm.
Eren is aware that his response would have an impact on his buddies as well as the captain asks him again who he is. Eren responds that he is a human, but the captain doesn’t believe him and commands the cannons to fire. Eren and Armin are taken by Mikasa, who orders them to leave.
Eren sees his father’s key emerge from his shirt at that very time. Eren remembers handing him the key, urging him to always keep it with him, and then injecting him with something that ruined his memory of that particular moment.
Then he recalls his father telling him in the cellar of his old house that even though the voyage would be incredibly perilous, they would have all they would ever need to finally defeat the Titans. He promises Eren that he will be able to learn how to use his new abilities from “their memories.”
Time appears to slow down as he remembers his father warning him that he must learn how to control his new gift if he wants to keep Mikasa and Armin safe. Eren seems to catch the cannonball by immediately biting down on his hand at that point. Eren is revealed to have partially changed into a Titan as the smoke clears, terrified everyone in his path, but he actually saved Armin and Mikasa by stopping the cannonball with the Titan’s hand.
